Andrea González, Baile

ANDREA GONZÁLEZ commenced her studies in flamenco and ballet folklórico with San Antonio dance legend, Teresa Champion.   As a young girl, Andrea received instruction in flamenco, folklórico, ballet, jazz, and tap at the San Antonio Dance Academy under the direction of Rosemary Cavasos Tatum and at the Academy of Dance Arts directed by Michelle Rodriguez.

 

She danced professionally while attending North East School of the Arts High School and participated in the American Ballet Theater Summer Intensive in Austin, Tx.  As a finalist in the National Foundation of Advancement in the Arts’ Recognition and Talent Search Scholarship Program, she was awarded training with Rosa Mercedes, artistic director of Duende Ballet Español in Miami, Florida.

 

Andrea attended the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque as a dance major where she studied flamenco with Eva Encinias-Sandoval. She traveled to Spain and attended the International Flamenco Festival in Albuquerque several times where she received instruction from “La Truco,” Alfonso Losa, Adela Campallo, Israel Galván, Pastora Galván, Isabel Bayón, Karime Amaya, María Moreno, Rosario Toledo, Águeda Saavedra, and Jesús Carmona, among others.

 

Since 2019 to date, she receives instruction and inspiration from acclaimed bailaoras Concha Jareño, Olga Pericet, and Belén López.  Andrea recently relocated to Houston where she enjoys performing and teaching.
